Questions & Answers
Is CE marking mandatory for Amazon?
Yes, but only for products legally required to carry it (e.g., electronics, toys, and medical devices) in the European Economic Area. If your items fall into these categories, Amazon enforces this strictly and requires you to provide a Declaration of Conformity and safety test reports to list them.
For CE-marked goods, Amazon mandates additional compliance requirements to sell in European marketplaces:
- EU Responsible Person: Since July 2021, CE-marked goods require an EU-based “Responsible Person” whose contact details must be printed on the product, packaging, or an accompanying document.
- Compliance Documentation: You will likely need to submit a valid Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and test reports directly through Amazon Seller Central.
- No Blanket Requirement: If CE marking does not apply to your specific product (e.g., textiles or generic kitchenware), Amazon does not require it. However, you must still adhere to general safety and traceability standards under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
