Questions & Answers
What symbols are mandatory?
Mandatory symbols for consumer products in the EU depend on the product type, primarily including the CE marking for regulated goods, the WEEE crossed-out bin for electronics, and specific hazard pictograms for chemicals.
General and Safety Markings:
- CE Marking: Required for electronics, toys, machinery, and medical devices to show it meets EU safety rules.
- Batch / Type Number: Required under general safety rules so items can be traced.
- Manufacturer Info: Name and address must be printed clearly.
Specialized Product Symbols
- WEEE Symbol (Crossed-out wheelie bin): Mandatory on electrical and electronic equipment to show it cannot go in regular trash.
- CLP / GHS Hazard Pictograms: Diamond shapes with red borders required on chemical or hazardous consumer mixtures (like cleaners or glues).
- e-mark: Shows that packages comply with the estimated weight or volume rules.
