Questions & Answers
Does CE marking apply to spare parts?
CE marking typically does not apply to standalone spare parts unless the part has an independent function and is placed on the market as a standalone product (e.g., an accessory). If a component is built into a larger assembly, the final product is CE marked as a whole.
Exceptions where individual spare parts do require CE marking include:
- Safety components: Parts specifically intended to fulfill a safety function.
- Active/Electronic parts: Parts with wireless connectivity, charging circuitry, or active electronics (e.g., electronic sensors or GPS units).
- Modified components: Parts that alter the original performance, intended use, or compliance envelope of the machinery.
