Can labels be placed under the battery?

Product regulatory and compliance labels can be placed under the removable battery compartment for the US, Canada, and Japan, but are generally not allowed for the main product CE/UKCA marks in the EU and UK unless specific size or design exceptions apply.

United States (FCC) & Canada (ISED):

• Under Battery Allowed: Yes, placing the FCC ID or ISED certification label inside a user-accessible, non-detachable compartment—such as under a removable battery—is explicitly permitted if the device is small or lacks exterior space.
• Conditions: The compartment must be readily user-accessible without needing tools. Alternatively, electronic labeling (e-labeling) can be used for devices with integrated screens.

Japan (MIC / Giteki):

• Under Battery Allowed: Yes. For mobile phones, small radio equipment, and portable devices with removable batteries, the technical conformity (Giteki) mark and numbers are historically and legally accepted inside the battery compartment.

European Union (CE) & United Kingdom (UKCA):

• Under Battery Allowed: No, for standard exterior CE and UKCA marks. The main conformity markings must be visible and permanently affixed on the external surface of the product during normal inspection.
• Exceptions: If a device is too small or restricted in size, putting mandatory safety or recycling symbols inside a user compartment or under a panel may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but primary CE/UKCA visibility rules strongly favor exterior or packaging visibility. Furthermore, under the newer EU Battery Regulations, direct physical marking requirements on batteries are strict and must be visible/indelible rather than hidden away on temporary adhesive stickers
