Can I use another company’s FCC ID?

You generally cannot use another company’s FCC ID directly. The FCC ID is tied to the original certification holder. However, if you are rebranding an already-certified device or using a certified module in your own product, you can legally obtain your own FCC ID without repeating full testing.

To do this, you must apply for a Change in ID (per 47 CFR §2.933), which requires:

• Written permission from the original equipment manufacturer/grantee.
• A formal application to a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) to register the product under your own company’s Grantee Code.
• Your product to remain functionally and hardware-identical to the original certified version.
