Questions & Answers
Can a pre-certified module be reused?
Yes, a pre-certified radio module can be reused for Japan MIC (Giteki) certification, provided you keep the original module completely unchanged, use an approved antenna type, and display the correct Giteki compliance markings and ID on your host product label.
Integration Rules:
- No New RF Testing: If you integrate a module that already holds a Japan MIC modular certification and you do not modify its RF parameters, you do not need to re-test the radio transmission.
- Antenna Restrictions: You must use the exact antenna type, gain, and placement specified in the module’s original grant. Changing the antenna can invalidate the reuse.
- Labeling Requirement: The final host device must display the Giteki mark and statement indicating it contains a certified radio module (e.g., “当該機器には電波法に基づく、技術基準適合証明等を受けた特定無線設備を装着している”).
When Re-certification is Required:
- Modifications: If you modify the circuitry, change the output power, or use a non-approved antenna.
- Co-location Issues: If multiple radios transmit simultaneously inside the host device and create new intermodulation or unverified electromagnetic interference (EMC) risks.
